Opinion On “Prescriptions for Psychiatric Trouble and the DSM V”

Misses one major point. The real problem is now what differences are called, but the stigma attached to mental differences. We don’t object to finding better and more refined descriptions when it come to physical ailments. At one point all coughs and sniffles were thought to be colds, now there are allergies and many different kinds of allergies. Stigma needs reducing.

As a mental health and physical fitness articles professional working with parents and children, I used the DSM to educate them. I shared DSM labels given to them or their child, long before that was popular. We then looked at the DSM to see if the labeled person agreed and if they didn’t worked to broaden the psychiatrists’ understanding of their patient.
